How to Research New Potential Trades
Video #2

The tools and features shown in this tutorial may not reflect the latest updates. For the most current version, please check your site.

Hi there! Kristin Magenst here. I am your Product Education Specialist. TradeSmith provides various features and tools to help you discover new opportunities. In this guide, I will show you how to research a new potential trade.

Let’s go to the website.

I am on my Money Movers Dashboard. Just as a refresher, I clicked on the Money Movers tab from the Invest page.

In your previous lesson, you learned that you can click on any ticker from this page to go to the Analyzer page.

You can also type in any ticker or company name in the “Search for Ticker” field in the upper right-hand corner.

Since we are here and reviewing our Top Money Movers, let’s click on a ticker that is moving up like Mayville Energy (MEC).

The site routes us to the Analyzer page where you can review the ticker in more detail.

You can review the latest price to the right of the ticker which is updated every 15 minutes, and it’s Health, Trend, and, Risk.

There are several tabs below to help you research your new potential trade. You will notice that the default tab when clicking on a Money Movers ticker is the Money Movers tab.

Note: Your Money Mover tab has been consolidated, and you can find the same information under the Owners tab.

From the Owners tab, you can review the ticker’s total Money Movers score.

To the right of the signals, you can view the Historical Ownership Distribution chart, which displays the ticker’s price line, Insider Sentiment, and Ownership Distribution.

The Insider Sentiment is calculated by adding all the insider and institutional direct open market buys and sells (excluding options-related transactions) that have occurred in the last 30 days.

It's a positive sentiment when the buys outweigh the sells (Moving Up). When the sells outweigh the buys, it's a negative sentiment (Moving Down).

You can hover your mouse over any price point or metric to review a data box. The insider sentiment for Mayville Energy (MEC) is positive.

If you scroll down the page, you can view the current ownership graph in more detail. You can review recent institutional, mutual fund, and insider transactions. You can also check out insider buying and selling by quarter.

To review the information in more detail, click the “View All” link.

For example, let’s click the “View All” link for recent insider transactions.

At the top of the Insiders tab, you will see the following information:

  • Current Insider Ownership (% of shares)
  • Number of Insider Buying (last 12 months)
  • Amount of Insider Buying (last 12 months)
  • Number of Insider Selling (last 12 months)
  • Amount of Insider Selling (last 12 months)
  • Insider Sentiment (7 days, 14 days, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days)
  • Insider Sell/Buy Ratio

The Insider Sell/Buy Ratio = Total number of shares from sell transactions divided by the total number of shares from buy transactions (within the last two weeks).

Below this top header information, you can review the insider buying and selling by quarter.

You can also review all the buys from the company’s insiders.

If a CEO, officer, or director is buying large quantities of stock, that may be something that deserves attention.

The Analyzer page helps you research new potential trades according to big money flows. You can also review our indicators and other statistical and fundamental data to make informed and unbiased decisions.
