Common Equity
Common equity refers to the ownership interest that shareholders hold in a company through their ownership of common stock. Common equity represents the residual value of a company’s assets after all liabilities and debts have been paid. It provides shareholders with voting rights, a share in the company’s profits through dividends (if declared), and the potential for capital gains if the stock price increases.
