To research a signal in more detail, click on the ticker symbol from the Top Signals or Today's Signals tabs.
You can also enter a ticker in the "Search for Ticker" field in the upper right of your program site.

The site takes you to the Asset Details page, where you can continue to research the ticker and its associated signals.
There are numerous tabs of information you can review, such as our TradeSmith indicators, Statistics, Financials, Chart, and many others, depending on your TradeSmith subscription.

The Signals drop-down menu below will default to displaying the Signal for the stock with the highest Quality Score.
Today’s Signals are statistically significant patterns that have demonstrated consistent behavior over time. Today’s Outliers, on the other hand, are high-probability, low-frequency patterns that have not occurred often enough to meet traditional standards for statistical significance, but may still be highly relevant to traders.
In many cases, we prefer to see approximately 20 occurrences before considering a pattern statistically significant. However, there are situations where even a small sample size can provide meaningful insight.
For example, imagine you go for a walk and turn right at the corner. A large dog charges at you, forcing you to retreat. The next day, you turn right again and encounter the same aggressive dog. Technically, you could repeat the experiment 18 more times to achieve a larger statistical sample, but most people would choose to turn left on the third day.
Today’s Outliers can offer similar insight. You may notice a pattern that has occurred only four times, yet each instance resulted in a substantial move immediately following an earnings report. Rather than waiting several more years for additional occurrences to confirm statistical significance, some traders may decide the existing evidence is compelling enough to act on the next signal.
Below are the Signals Overview pills, including Outlook (Bullish or Bearish), Category, Entry/Exit Rules, Quality Score, and Option Plays.

Below is Signal's Performance Summary for the selected years under review.

You can adjust the years under review from the settings drop-down menu:

Performance Summary
- Accuracy Rate - The percentage of past signals that closed with a gain.
- Average Return - The average percentage gain or loss across all past signals, including both winning and losing trades.
- Typical Gain - The median gain of winning signals, representing the most common gain outcome and reducing the impact of outliers.
- Average Win - The average percentage gain of all winning signals.
- Average Loss - The average percentage loss of all losing signals.
- Max Win - is the best single result the signal has ever produced.
- Max Loss - is the worst single result the signal has ever produced.
- Reward to Risk Ratio - factors in the win rate of the signal to show you the average amount you can expect to win or lose per dollar risked on a signal over time.
- Average Hold Time - is a mathematical average (total time positions are held / number of positions)
- Typical Hold Time - is the median (middle value), or a range where most data falls.
When the Average Hold Time and Typical Hold Time are similar, it indicates consistency. When they differ significantly, the Typical Hold Time is generally the more reliable figure to focus on.
Past Signal Occurrences
The Past Signal Occurrences window displays the total number of signals for the past year, the past 5 years, and the past 10 years.

The past year, past 5 years, and past 10 years are linked, so if you click on their respective numbers, the data below will update.
For example, in the screenshot below for Freeport McMoRan (FCX), the "9" past-year signals will display the open and close dates for the past year, along with their returns, max rise, max drop, and a performance chart.

If you hover your mouse over the chart, you can see the entry and exit for each signal, along with the returns for that period and the days held.

What Does the Past Performance Matrix Do?
The Past Performance Matrix visualizes the results of past signals so you can quickly see how they performed over time and how consistent those outcomes are.
How to Read It
- Each dot represents a single past signal occurrence
- Green dots = winning trades
- Red dots = losing trades
- Vertical position (Y-axis) shows the return
- Higher dots = larger gains
- Lower dots = larger losses
- Horizontal position (X-axis) shows when the signal occurred (timeline)
Key Reference Lines
- The green dotted line (Median Win) shows the typical gain of winning signals
- The red dotted line (Median Loss) shows the typical loss of losing signals
These lines help you quickly understand what a "normal" outcome looks like.
What Insights Does It Give You
- Consistency: Are most dots clustered tightly, or spread out?
- Risk vs. Reward: Are gains generally larger than losses?
- Outliers: Are there extreme wins or losses you should be aware of?
- Recent performance: Are newer signals behaving differently from older ones?
When you hover over a dot, you'll see details for that specific signal, including:
- Entry and exit dates
- Return
- Maximum rise and drop during the trade
- Days held
The Signals Event Path
Signals Event Path Graph: Displays historical average performance and adds a "Typical Hold" marker showing the historical average, highs, and lows for additional context. The graph is at the bottom of the Signals tab on the Asset Details page.
"Day 0" is the day the Signal triggered.
