Adding Options- Advanced Mode

If you want more control over entering options, use the Advanced Mode. This is particularly helpful for entering expired options.

To add an option in Advanced Mode, go to the Positions sub-tab and click the Add Position button, then click the link for Advanced Mode.

Note: You can not manually add options to a synchronized portfolio. We will receive the purchased option through the synchronization process.

Below is the Advanced Mode screen:

  • First, specify the portfolio you are adding the option to (1)
  • Select Option as your Asset Type (2)
  • If you are entering an expired option, check the expired option button (3)
  • Then, select your ticker.  You will also need to specify the option date, strike price, and type (4).
  • Specify if the option is long (buy) or short (sell) - 5
  • Specify if the position is open or closed (6). If you enter a closed position, it will appear under the Closed tab on your Positions view.
  • Next, you will see the option details.  The date (7) is the date you purchased the option.
  • The price (8) will autofill for you using the closing price from the purchase date. Please feel free to edit this value if you need to.
  • The quantify is the number of contracts you purchased (9).
  • Lastly, you can enter any applicable commissions (10).
  • Add any tags or notes you wish to add (11)
  • Click Add Position (12) or Next: Choose Exit Strategy (13)

After selecting Next: Choose Exit Strategy, you can apply one or more alerts to your option position by toggling the switch to "On". Click Add Position to save your position.
