Your alerts should act as your call to action. You set them up according to your preferences to notify you to do something once your alert criteria have been met.
Receiving too many alerts can become noise, though. You will receive the alert email from us, but if you’ve been receiving too many alerts, you might ignore it, or it might get lost among the other alerts hitting your inbox.
This could lead to losses or even missed opportunities. And no one wants that to happen.
To clean up your alerts, here are a few things you can do:
- Remove alerts once they trigger
- Don’t set up alerts you don’t need
- Clean up your Re-Entry Watchlist
Removing Triggered Alerts
We mentioned that you’d want to remove alerts once they trigger.

Image as of Dec. 2, 2025.
In the screenshot above, a triggered alert (represented by a purple bell icon) is displayed for DoorDash (DASH). DASH triggered its 10% trailing stop alert 20 days ago. If you planned on selling DASH, you could then remove that alert.
You can choose to have alerts automatically removed from your TradeSmith Finance program settings. To access your program settings, click on your first initial drop-down menu at the top right of your program site:

From the Alerts menu, scroll down the page until you reach the "Remove Triggered Alerts" feature:

By default, this feature is set to "No."
Just know that if you choose this option, you won’t get emails about alerts after the initial trigger. You would need to commit yourself to acting on the alert as soon as it triggers. If you prefer to perform some additional analysis before acting on your alert, this is not the option for you.
TradeSmith offers numerous alerts.
It can be tempting to add several alerts to each of your positions. But — do you truly need them all? When setting up your alerts, keep your trading strategy in mind. If one of these alerts were to trigger, do you plan to act on it? If not, then perhaps it’s best to hold off on adding multiple alerts.
If you do want to add multiple alerts, try using Templates. They make adding multiple alerts to one position easy. For example, you can create a VQ% and 10% trailing stop loss alert as a single, templated alert, thereby eliminating the need to add these alerts separately.
Don’t set up alerts you don’t need
TradeSmith can automatically create alerts on new positions as they are detected in your brokerage account and synchronized into TradeSmith.

Determine what exit strategy you want to follow for your holdings. If you want TradeSmith to automatically create alerts on new positions, toggle the "Automatic Alert Creation" feature to "Yes," and specify your preferred alert. You can also include any templated alerts.
If you are using the "Automatic Alert Creation" feature, there is no need to then manually add alerts to your positions.
If you are not using the "Automatic Alert Creation" feature, ensure that it is toggled to "No," so your positions are not assigned alerts you don't wish to follow.
Are you following the Health Indicator?
If so, you would not set up the "Automatic Alert Creation" feature, as the Health Indicator is a system alert. System alerts are global alerts that can be set across your portfolios, watchlists, newsletters, and baskets.

For example, if I am following the Health Long-term or Short-term indicator as my exit strategy, I would not need to also be alerted when the 25% trailing stop loss triggers.
Your final pro tip is to clean up your Re-Entry Watchlist.
By default, TradeSmith creates a "Re-Entry Watchlist" portfolio and adds your closed positions to this watchlist, allowing you to track your closed positions and potentially re-enter these trades at a later date based on your entry criteria.
As you review your "Re-Entry Watchlist" positions, it's a good idea to clean it up by removing any unnecessary alerts. For example, there is no reason to still have a trailing stop loss alert on a position you have already closed.
You can remove any unnecessary alerts from the Alerts tab after selecting the Re-Entry Watchlist portfolio in the Watch Only subtab of the My Portfolios page.
